The application of the GLASStoGLASS®
patented system to the construction of all glass structural façades has enabled the glassworks
AZZIMONTI PAOLINO S.P.A. to initiate a technologically successful,
safe and quality procedure.
The patented system (glass/silicone/glass) includes inserting a simple
strip of glass in the metal frames, ensuring excellent adhesion in the
seal of the glass-to-the frame, due to the full compatibility between silicone
and glass. In fact, both materials utilized are composed of silicon.
This system improves the structural safety of the façades, as it eliminates
the possible drawbacks caused by any electrostatic fields on
the frames where there is structural gluing. Both glass and silicone
have very low electric conductivity, and both are highly insulating materials with great resistance to aging. It also eliminates the problems
caused by errors and flaws that could occur during the treatment
process of the metal such as, painting, oxidizing or other operations,
as well as during the cleaning process of the metal frames before structural gluing to the glass. These operations, while considered
technically safe, statistically do not eliminate the chance of error.
For the GLASStoGLASS®
system Sika, one of the major world producers
of silicone, has formulated the two-component silicone sealant
ELASOSIL®
SG 462 and SG 500 with specialized certification
by the IFT Institute, of Rosenheim, for structural silicone according
to EOTA ETAG 002 (European Guideline for Structural Sealant
Glazing Systems).
